The FIVES Program at Saugatuck Nursery School
About Our Program for Five Year Old Children
The Fives Program at SNS offers children the additional time they need to strengthen and develop important skills before entering Kindergarten. Our program engages children and encourages them to explore new concepts, using the Project Approach. The curriculum focuses on Literacy, Math, Scientific Inquiry, Social Studies and Creative Arts. Letter recognition and phonemic awareness will be emphasized to aid children in their journey to become successful readers. With its smaller class size, social relationships can flourish and instruction will be tailored to the individual child’s skill level and needs. The Fives Program is a balance between academics and play. The program options are from 9am to 1:30pm or 9am to 3:00pm five days per week (Mon - Fri).
A Typical Day in the 5’s Green Room
Our Kindergarten Readiness classroom engages young minds and provides children with the early learning fundamentals for the next stage of their education. The Green Room gives children a place to feel comfortable and safe to explore their interests.
A typical day includes both shared and independent experiences that engage children and challenge them. Children visit various learning centers throughout the classroom where activities are designed to enrich and prepare them for Kindergarten confidence. Children are provided with opportunities that encourage self direction, exploration, skill practice and creative expression.
Enhanced whole-group activities and project-related learning activities help foster children’s development in key competency areas such as critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity.
Daily outdoor time promotes the development of conflict resolution, encourages cooperation, and enhances gross motor skills through play.
A rich blend of skills, interests and a love of learning are the components of our Fives program.
